The stars died so you could be here today
Posted in Random atheist stuff on April 14th, 2010 by dogSo who are you? Where did you come from? Do you feel privileged to be alive?
Many people who don’t understand atheists think we are a sad and desperate bunch, devoid of any hope. The reality is, in many cases, quite the contrary. We realize what an incredible place the universe is and just how lucky we are to be a part of it. We can get our fix of wonder and awe without any of the fairytales.
Give this quote some thought today. It has to be the most poetic thought to ever come out of Science!
“Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded. The atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. You are all stardust. All the things that matter for evolution and for life weren’t created at the beginning of time. They were created in the nuclear furnaces of stars. The only way for them to get into your body is if those stars were kind enough to explode. So forget Jesus. The stars died so that you could be here today.”
Lawrence Krauss
So sublime!
