5-year-old on God: “That’s the stupidest thing I ever heard. You’re dumb.”

youre-dumb

I know this could very well be fake, but it perfectly illustrates how even 5-year-olds can think for themselves when it comes to gods and religion. It just highlights the damage that religious brainwashing causes to children’s minds by stubbing out their natural curiosity and predisposition for critical thought.

Quoted from FMLife.com

Today, after church, my 5-year-old son asked me about God, so I answered his questions in full. We talked about God for over 2 hours. At the end of it all, he pondered for a moment, before saying to me “That’s the stupidest thing I ever heard. You’re dumb.” FML

this should be posted on mlig :D

  2. Alan Says:

Well if it’s fake it illustrates nothing, obviously.
Though I do agree with the sentiment.

  3. Anthony Says:

I don’t know if that is true, but I sure hope it is. That is freakin’ awesome!

  4. Chris Says:

Looks like somebody is raising their child well!!!!

  5. Phil E. Drifter Says:

Damn right. Like that quote at the start of “The Breakfast Club” by David Bowie:

    “And these children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds;
are immune to your consultations, they are quite aware of what they are
    going through.”

  6. Joop Says:

Religious people at that point would not be happy to find their kids to be very sane but fuck up their minds until they are as insane as they are themselves. And so the story continues.

  7. Tess Says:

Haha, I love that. And actually, it’s not fake — I have it bookmarked: http://www.fmylife.com/kids/9721953

  8. Mike Says:

    It’s real http://www.fmylife.com/kids/9721953

  9. Jack Says:

    Aren’t those lyrics from “Changes?”

  10. TGFA Says:

I don’t know about you guys but I just love when Christians, who supposedly have “high moral standards” and “love all of Gods children”, trash talk and damn a 5-year old child to eternal suffering in hell just for voicing his opinions!

    ~ Thank God For Atheism!

  11. Paul Says:

It’s not a question of whether it’s really on FML so much as whether it really happened.

  12. Oreo Says:

Tess, and Mike…. I am pretty sure when this author wrote “I know this very well could be fake” they meant that the poster of this on fml could have been a troll, that really was an atheist. Please stop and think for a second before blabbing.

  13. Defender of Truth Says:

Therefore warn (men, O Muhammad). By the grace of Allah thou art neither soothsayer nor madman.
Or say they: (he is) a poet, (one) for whom we may expect the accident of time?
Say (unto them): Expect (your fill)! Lo! I am with you among the expectant.
Do their minds command them to do this, or are they an outrageous folk?
Or say they: He hath invented it? Nay, but they will not believe!
Then let them produce speech the like thereof, if they are truthful.
Or were they created out of naught? Or are they the creators?
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they are sure of nothing!
    (At-Tur Verses 29-36)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
    By the Dawn (1)
    And ten nights, (2)
And the Even and the Odd, (3)
And the night when it departeth, (4)
There surely is an oath for the thinking man. (5)
Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A’ad, (6)
    With many-columned Iram, (7)
The like of which was not created in the lands; (8)
And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; (9)
And with Pharaoh, firm of might, (10)
Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, (11)
    And multiplied iniquity therein? (12)
Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. (13)
Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. (14)
As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. (15)
But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. (16)
Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan (17)
And urge not on the feeding of the poor. (18)
And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. (19)
And love wealth with abounding love. (20)
Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, (21)
And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, (22)
And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? (23)
He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! (24)
None punisheth as He will punish on that day! (25)
None bindeth as He then will bind. (26)
But ah! thou soul at peace! (27)
Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! (28)
Enter thou among My bondmen! (29)
    Enter thou My Garden! (30)

  14. Flonkbob Says:

@Defender Of The Spoof…dude, you’re nuts. Why would you quote that bullshit at people who never indicated any interest in your pedophile prophet, or his invisible friend? I mean, I love it because it displays so well the bone-headed ignorance of the religious mind…but did you think it would make anyone into a muslim?

There is no god. Religion is shared insanity. And you…well at best you’re a bit dim.

  15. Timotheus Says:

May God bless you all, my brothers! Not the one from Bible or any book promoting some religion, rather the God of Everything over our limited view of universes, truths, morals, actually over all we can define using what ever practice from all sciences to philosophy, from big bang to amount of dimensions etc.
I know that Atheism is one of world’s biggest growing Religions, but it sure has pretty loose social connections with each other members over the world!
Have you read the gook “God without Religion” or even pondered the situation, that what if there wouldn’t be a single religion over this planet, how much things would be better. I dislike the Religion bloodline and hypocrisy as much as you do.
I belong to those ones who don’t want to limit anything out of the others, so when leaving behind all isms as Religionism, Atheism, Patriotism etc, I’m finally much more free than many others.
And people like me are “more than many” and growing while i type, just because more and more people understands the rude, limiting and narrow-minded opinions in all isms and religion.
If someone can tell me one single “ism”, that wouldn’t do the previous and also judging and devaluing other people’s opinions and choices, it would be really nice to hear one (or more) of those, what you think could be good example(s)?
I think US 3rd president Thomas Jefferson said it all pretty nice ways: “It’s all between one and God”.
Today, however there’s plenty of stuff that heads into that “hole between”. We could think about organized Church, politics, patriotism, omnipotence of God (using old testament) and much more – as you sure see the lunatic issue in practice: “Religious people who hates other religious people”, Catholics vs. Protestants in UK, R-Wing political Church vs. Liberal freedom with God in USA!
So – as long you keep on “hating” religion and all bad it has caused, it’s okay but actually for good people judging others is never okay, that goes again towards limiting others and “super-sizing” them, who belongs to “our ism”.
The view of “only working solution” goes too easy from opinions to truth and then we can have enormous amount of truths over one single subject…
I wish, that all people (in time) would leave judging and putting people in classes and categories away and could start living in brotherhood of morals, ethics and God (our whole universe and all unseen of it can as well be “one brain-shell in God’s brain” or anything – main (to me) is, that i started feeling His existence, when i left every non-needed human invention behind and took only the essential. (leaving religions was the biggest relief).
Soon after i started feeling as people did, before they barely could communicate in long past, i was talking inside mostly through feelings and also noticed using the right brain-half, which we have not used much at all for 1000′s of years (because we invert almost everything and don’t notice that rational mind is also human invention).
Once known and Felt, this changes one’s life totally and permanently, stops judging and greed, the two major evils, that are bound into our body and mind, but not to our soul. That makes us noticing how our soul is different than the rest and once freed it’ll do the best possible: belief, relief, faith and understanding why we are living forever. Two first ones as well as their combination – the ego – will die of course as you believe. The soul is born to a baby in uterus and will be born away from the world of bounds, when the time is.
We will measure out good and bad ourselves, and that will clarify the destination much better, than any religion!
Hope you can read this all and i wish you all the best that this world can ever give you, what He cam give you and what you take is what you need – always …
Much universal Love to you all,
    Timotheus

  16. Rosita Says:

    @Timotheus

This is a litany of ignorance. For example:

=I know that Atheism is one of world’s biggest growing Religions=
Atheism is not a religion: it is the absence of religion.

=I belong to those ones who don’t want to limit anything out of the others, so when leaving behind all isms as Religionism, Atheism, Patriotism etc, I’m finally much more free than many others.=
    Religion-ism is not a word.
Your writing shows that you are limited by your subscription to the beliefs of theism and universalism.

=Soon after i started feeling as people did, before they barely could communicate in long past, i was talking inside mostly through feelings and also noticed using the right brain-half, which we have not used much at all for 1000’s of years =
You have no proof that pre-verbal humans “talked” though feelings. It is more probable that the development of language allowed the development of complex feelings.
Any neuro-scientist will tell you that everyone uses the right half of the brain as much as the left half of the brain. This is quite obvious from viewing brain scans of various types. Any geneticist will tell you that the right brain would not have developed to the same extent as the left brain if it were used less.

=I wish, that all people (in time) would leave judging and putting people in classes and categories away and could start living in brotherhood of morals, ethics and God=
If no-one judged others there would be no society worth living in, children would grow up without a socially acceptable morality and crime would go unchecked.

=The soul is born to a baby in uterus and will be born away from the world of bounds, when the time is.=
There is no valid proof of the concept of “soul”. It is a dogma associated with several religions. In this case, you are parroting Christian dogma. That makes you “religious”. The fact that you want to pick and choose which beliefs you subscribe to does not make it less so. You are simply creating your own version of a religion. In your case, it’s a variant of Christianity.

  17. Matt SF Says:

When I was in around the age of 5 or 6, I asked what was the difference between Santa Claus and God — I nearly got a spanking.

Pretty much decided from that point that God, and the rules surrounding the worship of a God that almost got me punished for asking an innocent question, wasn’t that good of an idea.

  18. Jesus Says:

    Rosita FTW!

  19. God Says:

you’ve got it right my son, Rosita for the win!

@Matt SF: Fear, your parents were afraid and used fear to control you. it’s all based on fear. that’s my trick :)

  20. Seeker Says:

Actually the similarities between God and Santa are very striking.

Both are omnipresent (they can tell when you’ve been naughty)
They are judges (God judges the good and the bad- Santa judges the naughty and nice)
Their celebrations are on the same day.
If you ask most people what God looks like- they may say ‘an old man with a white beard’
I don’t need to tell you what Santa looks like.

The problem with much of Christianity is that it is bound tightly to bullshit from the past.
God having a white beard- that’s Zeus not God.
The 25th of December is a pagan festival a group of Christians decided to take over (I’m not sure we like it when the boot is on the other foot).

However I’d caution you against bleating out in praise of Atheism.
More people have been slaughtered by Atheistic regimes or those which strongly discouraged religion, than in the name of God.

  21. tkreacher Says:

Seeker: “More people have been slaughtered by Atheistic regimes or those which strongly discouraged religion, than in the name of God.”

    1. Citation needed.

    2. Ideological atrocities committed under authoritarian (read: you cannot question the leader) methodology is a very is the precise modus operandi of the religious. The discouragement of religion in such a regime is to stamp out opposition to the supreme authority of the glorious leaders, not out of “atheism.”

Atheism is no more responsible, and literally cannot by any more responsible, than a-astrology or not collecting stamps.

Atheism != ideology. An ideology, world-view, or political system may be a-theism, a-astrology, a-popcorn… can literally be a-anything but to imply a disbelief in something, or not collecting stamps is that ideology, world-view, or political system is ignorant or dishonest.

    So, don’t do that.
