Town of Walker, Louisiana water bill says, “It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.” WTF?

Christian WTFery at the Town of Walker, Louisiana!

Christian quote on Town of Walker, Louisiana water bill

You think your water bill or other utility bills are outrageous? Wait until you see the ones they are sending out from the Town of Walker, Louisiana!

At first glance they look pretty much like any other water bill, until you get to the bottom, where it prominently says, and I quote, “NOTE: It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible!”

Impossible? WTF? I mean, why specifically God and the Bible? Why not Allah and the Koran, or The Flying Spaghetti Monster and the hilarious Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster for that matter? Are those any worse than the Bible when it comes to rightly governing the world?

Tell me, Town of Walker! I want to know.

I could get started discussing who actually wrote the so-called ‘word of God’, and I’d never end if I had to tackle the merits of the Bible as an ideal book to govern the world by.

I could pull up a thousand quotes to show that the Bible is far from being an ideal book. I could be asking the good folks over at the Town of Walker, Louisiana if they think we should govern the world on the basis that women are inferior. I could ask the Town of Walker, Louisiana if they are suggesting we should stone our children to death when they disobey. I could ask them if they think that those who govern the world should go on a genocidal rampage against their enemies, as God has ordered time and again. I could ask them a thousand such questions, and have to listen to a thousand apologetic, evasive or circular arguments.

But I won’t, because there is a greater issue here. A much greater issue. What has a quote about God and the Bible ever got to do with a sodden water bill?

I’ll tell you what. It’s that all that some religious people think of is pushing their brainwashed beliefs down our throats at all costs, whenever they can, and in whatever way they can. They don’t care what you or I think. They don’t give a fuck. They know the ultimate truth, and that’s that.

Just that if you ask them why God and why the Bible, the answer you’ll get will most probably boil down to, ‘because God says so in the Bible’.

Way to go Town of Walker, Louisiana. Now all the world will know just what a backwater you are!

BTW. There’s a phone number and address on the water bill, in case you want to let them know what you think.   ; )

“I could pull up a thousand quotes to show that the Bible is far from being an ideal book”

I would love to see you do that without the things you pull out being able to be explained..

The water company that wrote that on there has faith in God.

Wow, it was really that simple to answer..

So Smartypants…if God didn’t exist tell me..where did water come from in the first place?

  2. Shannon Says:

This is simply a program that puts quotes of famos people at the space on the bottom of the bill. This was a quote from George Washington . Though the mayor of the town of Walker appoligized for this quote for fear of being sued by some anti christian orginazation such as yours. Most everyone who lives here belive in Jesus Christ and Gods word “The Bible” and pray for people like you on a daily basis may god touch your soul in a way that you cant deny him.

  3. Nuse Says:

Bitch on bro! The Christians don’t want to secularism to invade their lives, I don’t want fundamentalism invading mine.

  4. Bebette Says:

Well wtf – if that’s actually a quote, why not attribute it? That makes it even worse in my opinion.

But to those of us buckled into the bible belt here in Louisiana, its nothing unusual. May I direct you to the Diversion Water Company, servicing parts of three parishes (counties) near me: http://www.diversionwater.com/

Take note of the lilies-and-a-bible motif up top, and the verse at the bottom. Your choices in my area are Diversion Water or drilling a well…which is also done by Diversion Water. So we suck it up and pay for the “holy” water.

This is probably too late, but that quote is a forged George Washington quote, it is not real and has no historical value whatsoever. It is Christian designed fiction, nothing more. It is all an attempt to brand the US as a “Christian Nation” and I think it is obvious what they are trying to do.

Where did water come from?? Water is created when two hydrogen atoms combine with one oxygen atom moron…Eighth grade science should’ve at least taught you that. Why is it that Atheists and Agnostics tend NOT to be so judgemental yet STUPID christians think that they have the right to judge EVERYONE??? According to your OWN mind controlling status of living, only GOD should be able to judge the people on this planet. Grow the fuck up.

Sadly, Shannon and her sad lack of spelling, grammar, and basic common sense is indicative of the people that live here in Walker, LA. In fact, she’s probably in the top 25% which is an even sadder indictment. My wife pays the water bill, so I managed to miss that quote, or I would have called the Mayor’s office the day I received it. As it is, I’ll be watching those quotes rather closely now, and will let my voice be heard should such nonsense rear its ugly head again.

Why does it bother you? Would you say the world is “rightly governed” at this point in time? Your money has the words “in God we trust” on it. Do you refuse to use United States currency? If you don’t believe in the principles that made this country the greatest country on earth, maybe you would prefer to live somewhere else. Maybe one of the countries in Africa would suit you. Absolute poverty, disease, corruption. I doubt they print religious quotes on their water bills.

  9. dog Says:

GP: I would reply to you, but that would burst the bubble you’re living in and I don’t want any more of your bigotry spilling out!

  10. Rebecca Says:

GP: No one in this country has a choice other than to use the paper pieces of trash that they MAKE us use as currency. If we didn’t we WOULD be living like people in Africa…starving…because without “in God we trust”….intelligent, open-minded people would f*cking starve. Your example is just one more way that this country tries to control people with an imaginary man in the sky who’s always watching what we do…And for CHRIST’S sake PLEASE stop saying that America is the “greatest country in the world”…I’d much rather live somewhere where I can carry my own system of beliefs, based on CONCRETE PROOF of the existence or non-existence of ANY entity than in this country where people like YOU feel the need to judge…

Nah, I lived in walker for 7 years including high school and I just really don’t see the crazy religious nazi thing going on here. It is very very true that we have a high concentration of extremely “faithful” people down here, who’s only concern with their religion is the fact that they have faith. I used to be a christian and I understand the bible very well and I can still draw some skin tingling sensations from its stories, while realizing the impact of bad religion in society today. The problem I think is that people don’t take their religion seriously enough and instead focus all on faith, making them automaticly assume things like “every quote about the bible is good” or “because so and so is a christian they are a great person” when in the way I see it they just aren’t really religious about anything at all besides blind faith. But as far as science is concerned to think that the world and all our wonders were not created by some ultimate power is blind faith as well, as their is no proof either way. This is not all christians just alot of people. Everyone judges or views the world in their own way in my opinion that goes hand in hand with evolution. I hope that evolution brings us to the point though were our religion will have absolutely no impact on our real oneness, while maintaining our uniqueness. This is the way I interpret the bible and many other cultural religious texts. Hating a human for faith in their theory is not open minded. And anyway it is a theory in progress for many christians duh they just use it as a backbone just as I have faith in my theory that evolution is a divine power and their is some fantastical wonderful force or energy to it that the world has yet to describe in words. who knows in the end they may be right about their own tripped out revelations and apocalypse and I’ll be wrong but I don’t deny that possibility, I just file it as different in my head and move on to the next thing in life its really not a big deal.

But to get a back on topic somewhat lol though I do think that it is twisted that we have the technology and resources to provide the world with clean efficient energy cheaply enough to be paid for with tax dollars alone and we just don’t, I also think its because their just isn’t enough people protesting this stuff. But water isn’t really a worry because it is already cheap XD lol. Benjamin Franklin would be pissed though if he knew what our society was like today and blame us all for not rebelling! We don’t have to use guns we just have to get all the sheeple together for a well thought out coherent and consistent sheep protest and we could achieve something. But untill we stop putting all our time in blogs and spend some out into the streets nothing is going to happen. Most media is not as biased as conspiracy theorists think and when enough people make a big enough scene with a well thought out message their isn’t much the media can do to twist it.

So… uh do whats true! true to you! and let others have that right as well! You’ll never convince anybody of anything using harsh language and if your “knowledge ” can’t be passed on than what good is it to anything in life? A dead end? If you tried to reach out to people with compassion like good christians and other religious followers of compassionate nature do, I promise you your beliefs would be much more widespread. Compassion may be the only perpetual energy we ever create as it is the only thing which in its true form gives more than it receives and we can produce it all day long as long as we’re alive if we all wanted too. We just have to do it. Anything that divides us from loving one another and working together is a wall that needs to be broken down. And that goes for both sides =)

I think God likes Atheist’s better than Christians. 1. Christians don’t understand the bible and have to be told by the Church what it means. 2. What ever the Church says they will take it in as Gospel. Example: I have been telling Christians that: 0. Daniel’s Biblical Prophecy is about 911.
The story of Nebuchadnezzar in the Book of Daniel is about 911. There are a number of similarities of the Empire of Nebuchadnezzar and the Empire of Saddam Hussein. I start with the Tree that grew tall and strong. When the tree was cut down the Kings reign fell with it. When the Twin Towers fell Saddam’s reign also fell.

Christains don’t get it. They lack understanding.

  13. Melanie Stephan Says:

And Yes, it is odd that the Water Company would write something about God on a Water Bill. What if the phone company did the same thing. Then your Credit Card bill had quotes from the Bible.

  14. B Nash Says:

Never understood why Atheists have a problem with this kind of stuff. Same thing with the jesus license plates. Why do you care so much? Exactly what part of that message offends you? I’m an Atheist myself, so i’m not pressing any kind of agenda here. Just wondering why this kind of thing bends you so far out of shape?

  15. dog Says:

@ B Nash: About the water bill quote, how about because it is an utter and complete lie, for starters? It is completely possible to ‘rightly govern the world without God and the Bible’.

Besides, God, that very same Bible, and the sort of fundamentalist Christianity that would print such messages on water bills, are used all the time to push for and justify very wrong ways of governing the world – from whether the friendly homosexuals down the street can marry and enjoy the same rights as you and me, to environmental policy, to which countries get invaded and stomped on. Ask Sarah Palin.
